The federal set-aside programs for woman-owned small businesses (WOSBs) and economically disadvantaged women-own small businesses (EDWOSBs) are still relatively new. How well is the program achieving its primary goal to support the award of 5% of federal prime contract dollars to women-owned small business?
More importantly, how can you use the program to open more doors for your woman-owned business in 2014?
The program has had a slow start. Between 2011 – the program’s first year – and 2012, the percentage of contract awards to women-owned small business rose from 3.98% to 4%. 2013 opened up potential for greater achievement. In May of this year, the rule was updated to remove the dollar value limit of individual contracts that may be set aside for the WOSB program. So what’s been happening?
